The first thing for others to notice, would be her hair. It has roughly two color and is cut in a short haircut. Also, the brown hair on her right hang down normally. The blonde hair on her left point straight towards her left. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot get them to fall down. Even when it's raining, her left hair keeps pointing straight to her left.
Outside during daytime, her eyes would be light brown. In the dark or when there's a lack of light, her eyes turn orange. Her eyes don't instantly turn from one color to the other, there is a course. Daylight makes her eyes seem more light brown than artificial light.
She has a regular style of clothing. She rarely wears black. Her expression is always nice and friendly.
Caery is usually cheerful and happy. She wants to make friends and learn everything about the world, because she never got a chance to when she lived with her father and her mother. She tries to stay away from magic (and almost always fails in that) because she does not want to talk about her own magic. She keeps conversations going by asking a lot of question. She can ask questions at any time and can easily give her interlocutor a headache with all her questions. Also, she tries to be someone the other enjoys being around - within reasonable limits, of course. She feels awkward if people keep asking her about something she doesn't want to tell.
Her demonic race lives in a dimension that is connected to an Earth. Humans cannot enter this demonic plane and neither can many other magical beings without a hand. The demons can travel between these two worlds. They are able to take people with them from one place to the other.
Caery has lived most of her days with either her father or her mother. They taught her what they knew - which was horrible for her, as her parents had many knowledge about the dark sides of life - until the day she finally got her freedom. When she was free, she went to the Earth she knew to visit places none of her family members lived. One of these places was a certain city with an interesting village nearby (aka The Crossroads village).
Caery's mother was named Ciárde, which meant 'darkness'. Ciárde was quite dark, as she was a demon. Long before Caery was born, Ciárde had five children. Back then, her youngest daughter was named Kerri. Kerri was loyal to her father, who then was the strongest demon. At least he was for a while. When Ciárde found out what she could do with her magic, she challenged Kerri's father to a duel. She won, but her victory came at a price: Kerri had ensured one of Ciárde's children - her halfbrother - died during Ciárde's fight in an attempt to distract her. Ciárde never found out what really happened.Because she won, Ciárde was allowed to call herself the Upperdemon for a few centuries. In those years, two more of her children died. Of her oldest, she never found the body. The other body was personally delivered to her door by the murderess.
Without a warning, a new demon arose. No one knew his name. All that people knew about him, was that he was strong. Very strong. Ciárde feared him, as she knew that she would be beaten one day. Her fear was legit, as the demon had the power to defeat her. He used that, yet didn't finished her off. He made her a deal: if she ensured no demon would ever find out she lived, he would let her live as well. There was one other condition: if he ever thought he could use her help, she had to give that to him. Ciárde agreed, as she was not ready to die yet.
Time passed and Ciárde's final two children were murdered as well. She started to feel useless and needed to have a new goal in life. Luckily, she was offered one. The demon who beat her, the new and current Upperdemon of their race, came to her. He had multiple children, more than Ciárde used to have, but he thought he needed another. He wanted a child that was stronger than all the others and had the power to protect him against any threat. He had no fear for enemies, he just preferred to outsmart them before they could even get close.Ciárde knew their deal forced her to accept, so she did. The Upperdemon left to make preparations. He visited a mysterious woman, hoping she could put a blessing on him so his and Ciárde's kid would indeed become powerful. He thought the woman had blessed him, but in a few years he would realize she had cursed him. After that, the Upperdemon and Ciárde got a kid. The Upperdemon decided to give their newborn daughter a name that sounded júst like Kerri, Ciárde's dead daughter. Back in their days, Kerri was the daughter of the strongest demon and loyal to him. She never consider her mother really important. The current Upperdemon knew this, so he wanted his daughter to have a name that sounded just like that to torture Ciárde. Each time their daughter's name would be mentioned, Ciárde would be reminded that it was the Upperdemon's kid and not hers. All that Ciárde could do, was change the new name's spelling, and thus the name 'Caery' was formed. Caery was born in Ciárde's house in the human world. It was a remote house next to a forest. The nearest town was just within eyesight. No one ever stopped by unannounced, except for Caery's father. Caery was born here, as the Upperdemon didn't want to have a crybaby at his place in the demonic world. He did however visit Ciárde often, as he wanted the kid to prefer him over her. Both the Upperdemon and Ciárde were evil in their own way - though Ciárde's evil had lessened over time -, however, their Caery showed no mean charactaristics. Not even the slightest sarcasm. For decades, the Upperdemon tried every way he could think of to make Caery do something evil out of herself. Ciárde slowly went her own way and got less motherly towards Caery. The sound of her name definitely played a part in that process.
Despite every one of the Upperdemon's plans to make Caery meaner failing, he kept trying. One day he pushed her too far and since that day, she often had nightmares about him at night. His respond to that was to threaten her to live throught the experience again if she didn't obey him. This was an effective tactic. In the beginning, Ciárde paid attention to Caery's nightmares, but that soon faded as Ciárde couldn't imagine why the same nightmare kept returning.
Caery grew out to be the nicest demon their world has ever known. Which is strange, considering her parents are two feared and evil demons. Unlike her father, Caery never wondered why she was born nice. Her goodness combined with the fact she cóúld beat her parents if she truly tried, makes her have quite some inner struggle. She had a very limited amount of spare time. She used to spend her time at a nearby shore, yet one day this changed. This day she met her first friend named Thalissa. This friend believed she was, just like Caery, a monster. Both of them were afraid of what the other demons would think of them. Both of them felt like they did not belong anywhere. And both of them had more power than they wanted.Their friendship grew strong and they felt comfortable with each other's presence. They would have been friends for the rest of their lives, if Caery's most evil sister had not killed Thalissa. This was the first time Caery lost someone close to her.
Friendly Caery loves to have contact with people, preferably with those who know nothing about her past. In any relatively normal situation, Caery's friendliness ensures people will like her more easily.Helpful Whenever someone is in need - whether they want to know directions or need to travel through a minefield - Caery wants to help them, as long as they mean well. If Caery is only able to help them by exposing her powers, she might hestitate but will use them if there is no other way. However, she will feel bad or shameful during her action and after it.Positive No matter how horrible the situation, Caery remains hopeful. She thinks there is a way out of almost everything and remains positive, even if she dóés think there is no way out.Protective When Caery sees a hit coming towards someone else or sees them being threatened, she would want to step in between. She would rather take a hit herself than let another get it. This is not necessarily a strength, as she could also take a hit for someone who deserved to be punched, or she could get herself into trouble like this.
Naive It's strange Caery is naive, considering she lived all her life amongst beings who had evil plans and even personally told her they should not be trusted. Still she believes in the best of people and assumes they mean well.Truthful Caery is unable to lie. No matter how hard she tries, she can only say what she believes to be true.Gullible Because Caery is unable to lie, she quickly thinks others tell her the truth as well. She likes and wants to believe in the good in people, even if facts say otherwise.Nightmares Since the day her father pushed her too far, Caery often does not sleep well. Those nights she has nightmares about evil, usually about her father. These frighten her a lot. It's quite easy to notice when she has a nightmare, as her sleeping body will show signs of fear and panic.
Defusion Caery can desufe magical and certain non-physical (for example, poison) attacks. The first time she gets hit, she will feel its full power. When her desufing power is turned on, the second hit will strike her with half its power, the third with less, and so on. Over time, the hit ratio will be reset and the hit will have a 100% hurt again. Her defusing power has absolutely no effect on physical attacks, such as fists and weapons.Possession Caery can turn into a dark smoke for a short amount of time. When she's like this, she can enter another's body and try to take control. If succeeded, Caery has full control. During the fight for control, strong people might be able to kick her out.
* It is very unlikely for Caery to use this power, as she hates it.
